playing fate by gabrieldevue playing fate by gabrieldevue
(for clearer details, please take 'full view')

One of these moods let me think about playing chess against fate, but I soon noticed, that one single little person saing 'that's me' is not able to play something that size.

We all have to make our decisions just simply to be a human being, but I wonder, whether today, in this news& Information-drowning-world, one is able to make a decision all by his- or herself...

fun-stuff:
You can find
7 (+2) mechanic wheels,
4 chains,
1 of these things that always point to the north (compass?)
1 screen
1 fate
1 Gabriel

ink, markers, brushes and PSP

i did a similar topic! [though i did not post it up] for school.. it was about fate and the interplay of the cosmic forces.. fate's predestined and all that, and we're just puppets in its game(:

totally LOVE this.

this is just wonderful! i usually dont comment, i normally just add pics to my favs but this is too good to let it pass by un-commented. The detail and the shading is just GREAT! I really love the chess metaphor and the shading....i've been toying with the whole "chess set" thing in one of my pics but i dont think i'll do as good as you. Good stuff!

This is an awesom piece. Such a puzzle.
It does soom impossible to make our own decisions anymore, but things have never changed. There's always been outside influence. Someone else's mind, opinion, indoctrination...That in itself is almost the motivation for finding our own thoughts. Making our own decisions.
When it comes down to the last srtaw anyway...we are the only ones who can make concrete decisions for ourselves.
em...just a thought heh
Your art is amazing by the way!

:) Thank you very much.

For this one, I mainly used an rapidograph 0.05, a marker 1-3mm and an ordinary 1mm marker. but you should watch out, that they're waterproof and don't fade... a rapidograph is not the cheapest pen to buy, but you can always refill it, what makes it way more cheap than those throw-away-pens. and the quality is better. My rapidograph is my HOLY PEN... if somebody touches it, i go berserk.

^^

thanks a lot!! everytime i go to make something... i go through about 4-5 pens! and althought they're not that expensive, it's kinda annoying. annyway, i'll have to go out and get me one of those rapidographs. thanks again!

this reminds me of one of those 'find all the things in the picture' activities... I could only find 5 wheels, one compass, one gabriel, two chains... very interesting though. again... it does seem very unclear.. even in full view.. but maybe thats just my bad eyesight and my uber dark monitor.. either way

What kind of process do you go through with these images? Do you have an idea in your head or do you just start jotting down ideas on paper and slowly pull it all together? There is so much random detail here - I love it. Reminds me of those 'stairs that lead into stairs that lead into stairs' images, forming a complete circle without having travelled up or down. I've been looking at this for about 5 minutes now (no joke) before commenting, trying to take it all in. I don't think I'll ever stop discovering something new in the image or something that I like about it.

Would love to see the creative world inside your head - what you are putting on paper is profound - don't stop!
